Holiday Food Drive

Thursday, December 11, 2014

Christmas will come a couple of weeks early in Jacksonville this year as needy families have a chance to get their holiday groceries – for free. It’s a team effort of the Jacksonville Professional Firefighters’ Association and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. The firefighters have been collecting food for distribution to those in need this Christmas season, and the church will be providing its fellowship hall as the distribution center on Saturday. David Bell, president of the Firefighters’ Association, says his group has received a lot of help with its efforts. Saturday’s food distribution will be coordinated by the members of St. Luke’s as part of their monthly beans and rice giveaway program. Sandra Caldwell, president of the Daughters of the King group at the church, says the extra food this month is their Christmas present to families in need. Ms. Caldwell says the church and the firefighters gave away more than 150 bags of food last December.
