Wreaths Across America: Calhoun County

Thursday, December 11, 2014

This Saturday at Fort McClellan’s military cemetery, a special ceremony will be held to honor America’s fallen heroes during this holiday season. McClellan is one of almost one-thousand sites where volunteers will place live balsam remembrance wreaths at the headstones of fallen veterans and family members. Those wreaths arrived today at McClellan, where volunteers are preparing them for Saturday’s ceremony. More than 350 wreaths will be placed by Alabama National Guard soldiers with assistance from the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H members, Young Marines and Trail Life USA Troop AL-0144. Master Sergeant Robert O’Day, the Operations NCO at McClellan, says this is a very special event each year. O’Day says the ceremony will begin at 11 Saturday morning and the public is encouraged to attend.
