Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin talking earlier today about yesterday’s raid to remove illicit drugs from the streets of his county. The Etowah County Drug Task Force and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force conducted a raid that resulted in the arrests of seven men. The men were charged with either distribution of heroin or trafficking of heroin. Drug Task Force Commander Rob Savage says there are four more individuals that the task force is still looking for. District Attorney Jimmie Harp says that Etowah County is taking a leading role in getting heroin and heroin dealers off the streets. Officials added that they are seeing the largest increase in heroin usage in the past twenty years and that they believe that the majority of the drug is coming from metropolitan areas around the state. Sheriff Entrekin says that drug officers will follow through on the remaining warrants and will continue investigating reports of heroin abuse in the county.
