High Speed Chase on Highway 202: Anniston

Friday, December 12, 2014

Deputies from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office engage in a high speed chase on Highway 202. It all began at 10:00 a.m. when a deputy went to a residence in Saks to serve a warrant on Derek Johns for non-payment of child support. The deputy was told that Johns was not in the residence when actually he was. The deputy later discovered Johns running from the house and getting into his vehicle and leaving the scene. The Deputy and fellow officers followed Johns down onto Highway 431. Amerson said the pursuit got up to speeds of more than 100 miles per hour and involved numerous deputies. He added that Johns got into a construction zone and even entered oncoming traffic. Johns is now in custody at the Calhoun County Jail.
