Christmas Cheer Program: Anniston

The Anniston Army Depot continues a holiday tradition that began 31 years ago with its Christmas Cheer program. Today, employees and volunteers with the depot’s program delivered boxes of gifts to Calhoun County’s Department of Human Resources office. 192 D-H-R children are the recipients of the presents that were distributed to the families by D-H-R case workers in time to be opened on Christmas. Anniston Army Depot employees gave gifts valued between $150 and $175. They gave a total of $27,900 in support to the children. Calhoun County D-H-R Director Maria Dresser says it’s important for the Depot community and D-H-R to be able to come together to provide Christmas gifts for the less fortunate families in our area. Christmas Cheer also allows Depot employees to sponsor installation families. First time participant Lieutenant Colonel Hattie Richardson says it is a great experience and she is overwhelmed by the generosity of her Depot colleagues. Anniston Army Depot Commander Colonel Brent Bolander says the Depot has many great volunteers for this heartwarming effort which included some help from members of his own family. The Department of Human Resources will be delivering gifts to the community through Christmas Eve.
