An attempt to do a good deed took an unexpected turn for Cherokee County Deputies early Wednesday morning. Deputies Gene Knowles & Jeremy Steppes were traveling along Highway 411 in the Moshat community when they witnessed a man walking in the freezing cold and while they were in the midst of turning around to offer assistance they saw the man fleeing into a wooded area. Following a brief foot chase and search, 24 year old Justin DeWayne Gossett was found and taken into custody. It turns out, that he was wanted on three outstanding traffic warrants from the City of Centre. Gossett was booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center just before 11:00am; those taking part in the apprehension of Gossett included members of the Sheriff’s Office, Centre Police Department and Cedar Bluff Police Department.
