Flu Is Widespread in Alabama: ADPH

According to the Alabama Department of Public Health, the flu virus is widespread in more than half of Alabama’s 67 counties, and includes most major cities. The C-D-C reports that 21 children have died nationwide as a result of flu-associated illness this season. But, none of those fatalities have occurred in Alabama. There are a number of things you can and should do to help combat the spread of the flu. Try to avoid close contact with people who are already sick. If you are sick with a flu-like illness the Center for Disease Control recommends that you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone – except to get medical care or for other necessities. While sick limit your contact with others as much as possible to keep from infecting them. And a few more tips: Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water. And, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth – as this is the most common way germs are spread.
