Local jurisdictions and agencies have opened the following warming centers to provide relief for local citizens: The Salvation Army on North 11th Street in Gadsden, is open every day until Friday from 8:00am until noon, the Elliott Community Center on West Meighan Boulevard in Gadsden is until 5pm on Friday, The Carver Community Center on Tuscaloosa Avenue is open every day 8:00am until 5:00pm on Friday, and the Gadsden Public Library on College Street is also open until Friday at 5:00pm. The Town of Altoona will open a location upon request. You must call 205-589-2000 to request a warming center. The city of Attalla has opened the Carnes Recreation Center on Case Avenue South East until Friday at 5:00pm, The George Wallace Senior Center on Hollingsworth Drive in Glencoe is open until Friday at 3:00pm, The Rainbow City Community Center on Rainbow Drive will be open through 4:00pm on Friday, The Southside Community Center on Highway 77 in Southside is opened through noon on Friday, and the Walnut Grove Recreation Center on Vandiver Street in Walnut Grove is continuously opened and will be open until noon on Friday. In Calhoun County, The Salvation Army on Noble Street is continuously open and will keep a warming center open as temperatures drop below 40 degrees. The Carver Community Center on West 14th Street will remain open until 8:00am on Saturday, the Oxford Civic Center on McCullars Lane is now open and will remain open through the morning and the Piedmont Civic Center on Mill Street will open upon request. You must call the Piedmont Police Department at 256-447-9091 if you are in need of a warm place to stay. Also, Christ Point Community Church in Sylacauga on North Anniston Avenue will be open until 9:00am on Friday.
