Facebook Unveils New AMBER Alert System

Facebook launches an AMBER alert distribution system. The new distribution system will send AMBER Alerts to people’s News Feeds if they are in the designated search area after a child has been abducted. Facebook officials say this system is unique because alerts will only be shown to people who are most likely in a position to help – those directly within the designated search area. Victim’s Rights Advocate John Walsh says it’s a powerful partnership. People will also have a direct link to the most up-to-date information about the case and, importantly, will be able to share the alert with friends – a feature no other system offers. Since 2009 more than 700 children have been recovered alive because of AMBER alerts.
