White’s Gap Community Meets to Debate Annexation

The White’s Gap community makes a strong showing at the Jacksonville Community Center last night as community members voice their opinion on annexation. The city of Jacksonville has been discussing the status of the rural community for more than a year. Jacksonville plans to take legislative action and move forward with plans to expand the city’s limits. Many White’s Gap residents are opposed to the annexation. Senator Del Marsh, who was in attendance at last night’s meeting, says he believes there has been a lot of miscommunication. Officals say Jacksonville has altered their plans before. The city excluded much of the rural areas it had planned to absorb. Jacksonville Mayor Johnny Smith says there seems to be more opposition to the residential side of the proposal. Smith adds if the city goes forward with the annexation they will have to advertise it in the paper for four weeks before it goes before the legislature.
