3rd Degree Receiving Stolen Property

A traffic stop conducted by Leesburg Law Enforcement leads to the arrest of a Southside man on Cherokee County warrants. 38-year-old Joseph Weathington was pulled over by a police officer on County Road 7, and was found to be in possession of a shotgun, which had been reported stolen to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office back in 2010. According to Leesburg Police Chief Lanny Ransum, the A-T-F has been contacted in connection with the incident, and Weathington could be facing federal charges in connection with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He was booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center charged with Third Degree Receiving Stolen property in addition to warrants for receiving stolen property and other offenses.
