A former Etowah County Coroner is accused of receiving more than forty-thousand dollars in deceptive payments from the Etowah County Commission and ends up charged in connection to fraudulent theft. Michael Gladden of Gadsden was arrested Tuesday and charged with one count of first degree theft by deception and twelve counts of failing to file a required report. This all took place during Gladden’s tenure as Etowah County Coroner. According to Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin, Gladden submitted falsified mileage information and received the money in exchange for duties he did not perform. The Sheriff’s Office also says he also knowingly failed to file the monthly report of deaths in Etowah County dating back to January 2014. Gladden was booked into the Etowah County Detention Center and later released on $6,200 bond. The investigation is ongoing.
