Execution Blocked: William Kuenzel
The Alabama Supreme Court has blocked next month's execution of a Talladega County man. William Ernest Kuenzel was scheduled for lethal injection on March 19. He was convicted in the 1987 shooting death of a convenience store clerk in Sylacauga. The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals was scheduled to consider Kuenzel's case during oral arguments three weeks after the planned execution. His attorneys argued it would be unconstitutional to execute him before the appeals court heard the arguments. The Supreme Court blocked the execution until it issues further orders.
