New Auburn Oak Trees Planted: Auburn
Two huge live oak trees are replacing two of the iconic oaks on Auburn's campus that were destroyed by an Alabama fan who admitted to poisoning the oaks after and Iron Bowl loss in 2010. Hundreds of Auburn students and fans gathered to welcome the return of the campus landmarks on Saturday. It took crane operators five hours to move the huge live oak trees into place and get them planted. School officials reviewed nine-thousand trees before picking the 15-year-old replacement trees. It's an Auburn tradition to celebrate a football win by covering the trees in toilet paper.
