Shooting Incident: Cherokee County
A weekend shooting incident in Cherokee County kills a child and injures two people. Emergency responders were called to a home on County Road 865 in Gaylesville Sunday morning. According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, a father was cleaning his gun when it accidentally discharged. The bullet went through the man's hand, struck an 11-year-old child who was sitting on the couch and then struck the mother in the elbow. The child was pronounced dead at the scene. The man and the woman were taken to a local hospital for their injuries. The incident remains under investigation.
