B'ham Mayor Visits Gadsden: Black History Month

Birmingham Mayor William Bell paid a visit to Gadsden today as part of Gadsden State’s ongoing celebration of Black History Month. Today’s event was held on the Valley Street Campus which is designated as one of Alabama’s Traditionally Black Colleges. Mayor Bell spoke with fondness of his personal connections with Gadsden State. Mayor Bell’s main message today was about encouraging others – especially young people – to see more in themselves than they think is possible and to honor those who fought for the rights enjoyed today by taking advantage of opportunity. Gadsden State Interim President, Dr. Martha Lavender, says that it is always special when Gadsden State alumni come back to visit. Gadsden State will host additional Black History Month events throughout the month of February. For a complete schedule of those events, visit their website at www.gadsdenstate.edu or call 256.549.8223.
