Pancake Day Saturday: Gadsden
Despite the continuing threat of bad weather for this weekend, plans are moving full speed ahead for the annual Gadsden Kiwanis Pancake Day. Every year for nearly 60 years, Gadsden Kiwanis volunteers rise before dawn to put on one of the biggest pancake day fundraisers in the south. By the time the day is over, members will have cooked and served more 15,000 pancakes and around 2,000 pounds of Dean’s sausage. Pancake Day is also one of East Alabama’s biggest social events, with organizers expecting a crowd of thousands to participate…all in the name of raising money for charity.Williams says that Kiwanis members are closely watching the weather for Friday night and early Saturday morning, but that – no matter the weather – pancake day will go on. So, barring any weather delays, Gadsden Kiwanis Pancake Day will take place Saturday morning at Gadsden’s Convention Hall. Doors will open at 6am and pancakes will be served until 2pm. The cost of only $5 per plate and carry out is available if you need it.
