Charged with Sexual Abuse of a Child

Etowah County’s Chief Administrator is accused of child sex crimes. Patrick Simms has been charged with Sexual Abuse of a Child younger than 12-years-old. The charges stem from a report about possible child sexual abuse in Chambers County on or about February 8. A press release says the Chambers County Criminal Investigations Division looked into the allegations and issued a warrant for Simms. He surrendered to the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office yesterday, posted bond and was released. Simms previously worked as the administrator in Chambers County and owns property there. Defense attorney Skip McCoy told the Associated Press that Simms denies the allegations and expects to be cleared of the charge. Last Friday, the Etowah County Commission placed Simms on paid administrative leave but they did not give a reason.
