AEA Fires Its Executive Secretary
The Alabama Education Association board announced Saturday that it is moving to fire its executive secretary, Henry Mabry. The move came after a financial audit requested by the A-E-A board raised concerns about Mabry's financial management of the organization. A-E-A President Anita Gibson said the decision was difficult, but it was necessary to put the organization on a sound footing. Gibson said the board voted Saturday to make the change. Alabama Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard issued the following statement following the announcement of a leadership change at the Alabama Education Association:The A-E-A leadership over the last four years has been unwilling and unable to work with the Republican supermajority in the Alabama Legislature. My hope is that fresh, new leadership within that organization will be willing to cooperate in implementing needed reforms in our public schools, which will improve education opportunities for teachers, parents, and students alike.
