Fire Department Preps for Winter Weather: Anniston

The Anniston Fire Department spent the day preparing for the worst case winter weather scenario. Anniston Fire Department Captain David Conde (CONDEY) says his department is a lot more prepared for this year's weather events.Gadsden Fire Department Chief Steve Carroll spoke to TV24 by phone today about increasing community awareness concerning winter weather safety. He says they, too, have responded proactively to the winter weather advisories.Chief Carroll says that while enduring winter weather people need to be cautious when using space heaters. Statistics show that confined fires, those fires confined to chimneys or fuel burners, accounted for 87 percent of residential building heating fires – and - thirty percent of the nonconfined residential building heating fires occurred because the heat source was too close to something flammable.
