2015 Official Arbor Day City: Anniston

The Alabama Urban Forestry Association selects the City of Anniston as the Official Arbor Day City for 2015, a recognition given to one community each year that serves as an example to others by planning, planting, managing and celebrating their urban forest resources. The City celebrated this recognition at its Arbor Day event held this afternoon at Zinn Park in Historic Downtown Anniston. Anniston native Dennis Bradford says he picked up some myrtles, maples, and oak trees to take home and distribute throughout his yard.Alabama Power officials who attended today’s ceremony to help promote the "Right Tree in the Right Place Initiative" say many of these trees will stand in Anniston’s parks and along its corridors, enhancing the quality of life as well as health and wellness for all citizens. Today’s Arbor Day celebration was held in partnership with the Calhoun County Extension System and included a presentation on the history of Anniston’s trees.
