Gadsden Police Warn Retailers

Wednesday, March 4, 2015

The Gadsden Police Department sends a warning to retail establishments. They report a new type of distraction theft in the area. According to police, two or more people will select items and place them into their shopping cart. While one person attempts to use a credit or debit card to complete the transaction, the other will exit and remove merchandise to their vehicle. The card will be declined, an error will be found or something that may require a manual input. At that moment it will call attention away from those exiting. Once items are loaded, the person with the card will run to the waiting vehicle. The police department urges any retailers who become targets of the theft scheme to call them and file a report immediately.
