After the state Fire Marshal's Office forced the closure of the Vann Thomas Motel in Anniston, many people wondered what was going to happen to the property. Last night the Anniston City Council approved two things regarding the motel. They declared the Vann Thomas Motel a nuisance which allows the city to be involved in the demolition of the property. City Manager Brian Johnson says he is now authorized to execute a nuisance abatement agreement with the owner. Johnson says the city and the owner of the motel have entered a public-private partnership in which the owner will demolish the building and the Anniston Public Works will demolish the parking lot. A lien will be placed on the property and when the property is sold the value of the work provided by the city will be returned to the city.
