Tax Credits for Private School

Parents wishing to have more flexibility with their children’s education gain a victory on Monday. The Alabama Supreme Court has upheld a state program that gives tax credits to help families pay for private school. The Supreme Court ruled Monday that the law does not violate restrictions on giving funds to private, religious schools because the money goes to parents. The law gives income-tax credits to help parents pay for private school if their child attends a failing public one. It also gives tax credits for donations to scholarship programs.

Justices also ruled that the manner in which Republican legislators passed the bill was legal.
