The Alabama Department of Revenue says that first-time tax filers in Alabama will no longer be able to get refunds via Direct Deposit. Revenue officials say the move is their latest effort to prevent fraudulent tax returns. The department announced in February that it had received more than 16,000 returns that were suspected to be fraudulent. Taxpayers who may be victims of fraud will get a letter asking them to complete an ID confirmation quiz either online or by phone and the questionable returns will not be processed until the quiz is completed. First time filers will only be able to get their refunds by traditional paper check.
