The U.S. Supreme Court announced today that it will hear oral arguments concerning same-sex marriages on April 28. According to a story from the Reuters news service, the nation's highest court has set aside a 150-minute oral argument period in relation to cases in Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky and Tennessee. Any ruling from the supreme court in those cases is expected to effectively end the argument over whether states can ban gay marriages. A court ruling will have a significant impact here in Alabama where the debate over gay marriage has been raging for several weeks amid conflicting orders from a Federal Court Judge and the state Supreme Court. The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to issue its ruling before July.
