A League of Our Own Field Dedication: Oxford
An organization built to support and bring recreation to children celebrated its baseball field dedication in Oxford this weekend. "A League of Our Own" began four years ago when Ginger Monroe approached the city about establishing baseball activities for special needs children, and now it’s grown to having it’s very own specially made field. The league now has 107 players and 10 teams, the program helps children with physical and mental disabilities. Oxford City Council President Steven Waits said Oxford was excited to support the cause. People came from near and far to help celebrate the dedication of the field. The consensus seemed to be that the day’s event was an amazing feeling. The model for the league was the Miracle League fields that have been constructed in cities like Moody. And in their league every player gets on base, scores and hits.
