Jacksonville Public Safety Complex
The construction of a new public safety complex will soon begin in Jacksonville. The city held a ground breaking ceremony yesterday for the project. The complex will sit on the former Jacksonville Airport property at George Douthit Drive, Branscomb Drive and Second Avenue Southwest. The 48,000 square-foot facility will house the city's police department, fire department, municipal court, municipal jail and civil service board. The courtroom will double as a FEMA community safe room. FEMA awarded grant money to help with that space through the Alabama Emergency Management Agency. The $12 million project is expected to be completed in August 2016.
