Income Requirements of Alabama Accountability Act
A bill to help parents of children in failing schools get more tax credits has been delayed in the Alabama Senate. The bill would increase the collective yearly cap on donations to the Alabama Accountability Act from $25 million to $35 million. Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh of Anniston is seeking to expand the state scholarship program that helps some families pay for private school. Children in failing public schools have priority for the scholarships, but many recipients are from outside failing schools. Opponents say it would drain another $10 million from already financially struggling public schools. The bill would also tighten income requirements for the scholarships.
