Auburn University is inviting the public to participate in a ceremony to dedicate the new oak trees at Toomer's Corner. Two new oak trees were trucked in on Valentine's day and planted at Toomer's Corner in Samford Park. They replace the ones poisoned by Alabama fan Harvey Updyke Junior after the 2010 Iron Bowl. The university is asking fans not to roll the two new trees until fall 2016 to allow them to establish roots and adapt to their new environment.
The university will team up with the City of Auburn after the A-day spring football game to dedicate the oaks. The event is planned for April 18 at 5 p.m. at Toomer's Corner. The ceremony is part of an overall block party, which is free and open to students and the public.
