Demolition of the Vann Thomas Motel in Anniston
Today, owners of the Vann Thomas Motel demolish the building. An inspector from the state Fire Marshal's Office came to the motel on January 29 and told the business owner they would have three days to close. In February, the state Fire Marshal's Office forced the closure of the motel. According to officials, the building wasn’t up to code. City officials say the city of Anniston and the owner of the motel entered a public-private partnership in which the owner would demolish the building and the Anniston Public Works will demolish the parking lot. A lien has been placed on the property and when the property is sold the value of the work provided by the city will be returned to the city.
