Joyce Garrard Takes the Stand in Trial
Closing arguments will be presented Friday in Joyce Garrard's capital murder trial in Etowah County. Garrard is accused of running her 9-year-old granddaughter to death in 2012. The defense closed the trial today with Garrard taking the stand. She told jurors that she'd "rather die" than harm 9-year-old Savannah Hardin. During cross-examination, Garrard told prosecutor Marcus Reid she was coaching the girl on how to run faster that day. She says she told Hardin "don't stop" to help her win a race at school.
