Little Free Library: Anniston

A new concept that is taking the world by storm has made its way to Anniston. The Anniston and Calhoun County Public Library is hoping residents will stop by their Little Free Library in LaGarde Park, pick up a book, maybe find a new favorite author, and enjoy the convenience of this new form of library service. Library Director Teresa Kiser says the concept of the Little Free Library began in 2009 when a young man honored his dead schoolteacher mother with a little library. The idea is meant to encourage people to read and tap into a new and different population of readers. Kiser says there is something for everybody. All you need to do is take a book and return a book to keep the library going. The library will be a permanent fixture for both children and adults. Kiser adds that the process is really simple and relies on the good faith of honest people. The LaGarde Park Little Free Library is one of 13 in Alabama. There are more than 10,000 in 50 different countries.
