Single-serving cups of chocolate, strawberry and vanilla Blue Bell Ice Cream have been recalled across 23 states after a cup in Kansas tested positive for Listeria. Alabama agriculture officials are checking the recall. Officials say they’re checking whether any of the recalled products are being served in Alabama. The recall applies to institutional and food service customers. Convenience stores and supermarkets are not affected. So far five people in Kansas have developed listeriosis after eating Blue Bell products while hospitalized for unrelated causes. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says three of them have died. An infection could be serious or fatal in young children or frail or elderly adults.
