Alabama's Unemployment Rate Drops

Alabama's first time unemployment claims in February were the lowest they've been in 40 years. That's the word from the Department of Labor. A report released today shows the state's unemployment rate dropped to 5.8 percent in February. That's compared to the national average of 5.5 percent. Governor Robert Bentley said he would not accept a paycheck until the state's unemployment rate dropped to 5.2 percent. That’s Anniston Mayor Vaughn Stewart speaking today at the Anniston YMCA about the upcoming Sunny King Criterium that will be held this Saturday from 11:00AM to 9:00PM in Downtown Anniston. Pro and amateur male and female cyclists from around the world will be competing. The Sunny King Criterium is the second stop on the coveted USA Cycling National Criterium Calendar. And pro and amateur alike sing the praises of the race. Saying everyone in the community cooperates to make it a very different cycling event. Also, as part of the weekend, Pro and Elite Men and Women will have the opportunity to race the following morning, Sunday, March 29, in nearby Bains Gap. The 20-mile lap of the Fort McClellan Road Race will feature over 1,700 feet of climbing. On Saturday and Sunday there will be street closures beginning with Highway 202 all the way to Choccolocco Road. Cyclists will be traveling at high speeds on the roads listed on your screen.
