Last night on our newscast we told you about an 8 pound marijuana drug bust on Heflin’s I-20. According to Heflin Police Department Chief AJ Benefield, 33-year-old Reginald Gates of College Park, Georgia and 34-year-old Jaquay Liggion from Carmichael, California were charged with trafficking marijuana. The two men were travelling westbound on I-20 when they were pulled over for speeding. When pulled over, the officer smelled a masking odor coming from the car. The officer then deployed K-9 Jedi to search the vehicle. The canine sniffed the vehicle and confirmed a narcotic odor from their vehicle. The officer found 8 clear plastic gallon bags containing marijuana and a semi auto Smith and Wesson pistol in a book bag. Benefield says he and his officers will remain vigilant to get drugs out of their community. Gates and Liggion bond is set at $1-million.
