Calhoun County Schools introduce their second weapons detection canine at Ohatchee High School, today. The canine named HOSS is a Vapor Wake detection dog. And, according to officials he is the most effective and efficient detector dog. Director of Safety and Security Randy Reaves says HOSS gives the schools a distinct advantage when it comes to protecting students, teachers, and school staff. AMK9 Academy Managing Director Paul Hammonds says K9 HOSS is reared and screened for high performance output, and qualified to meet extremely challenging demands. He says HOSS is always on. Hammonds tells TV24 how HOSS does his job. Calhoun County Schools Resource Officer and officer with the Sheriff’s Office K9 Division Jeffery Mayhieu says HOSS completely understands the school environment and its potential threats. But, he says HOSS is still able to be the loveable, approachable dog that kids love. He adds that he’s a big help. Vapor Wake is a scientifically-proven and patented technology. It is a division of ITC Security Partners in conjunction with Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
