Deadly Rappelling Accident: Mt.Cheaha


An eighth grade girl is killed in a tragic accident during a family outing at Cheaha State Park… The deadly accident took place over Easter weekend on Saturday.  The family was rappelling at Pulpit Rock Trail. According to Shelby County Schools spokesperson Cindy Warner, the girl’s identity has been confirmed as 14-year-old Millie Elia, a student at Oak Mountain Middle School.  The school is providing counseling services for her classmates and teachers.  In addition to the school counselors, the district called in counselors from surrounding schools to assist.  Millie Elia was a Cheerleader, an Advanced Symphonic Band member, an Honors student in the National Junior Honor Society and Science Club, and an active member of Meadowbrook Baptist Youth group.
