Proposed Bill to Increase Funding for Etowah County Sheriff's Office

Senator Phil Williams of Rainbow City has proposed a bill in the Alabama State Senate to increase funding for the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office, and the Etowah County Drug Task Force. Senator Williams says it’s important to him as he looks at how community leadership is fiscally constrained. The increased funding will allow the District Attorney’s Office to hire an additional assistant district attorney, increase pay for deputies in the Sheriff’s Office, and provide more resources for the Drug Task Force to fight drugs like heroin and meth on the streets of Etowah County. Drug Task Force Commander Rob Savage says he supports what the entire delegation for his county is doing. The increased funding will come from a slight adjustment to the county’s existing 1-percent sales tax and funds from the Tennessee Valley Authority. No new taxes are proposed.
