New Phone Scam Targets Social Security Information

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office wants its community to be aware of a scheme in the area. It involves an individual calling the victim and telling them that they are being sued. The schemer then tells the victim that they need the last 4 digits of their social security number to stop the lawsuit. The sheriff’s office says simple internet searches can reveal personal information which may include portions of your social security number, and the scammers will only need the last 4 digits to complete your social security number. So, the sheriff’s office says the lesson in this scheme is to never give out personal information.
