Alexandria Baseball Pair Sign,Team Preps For Springville

Another pair of Alexandria athletes signed on Wednesday (first day of the spring signing period). Pitcher Justin Whitley and catcher Derrik Turner signed national letters of intent for baseball. Whitley is set to pitch at Montevallo and Turner signed to play at Marion Military Institute in Perry County. Both players have some unfinished business on the high school diamond.

The seniors are hoping to end the year with a state championship in the playoffs which begin on Friday. The Valley Cubs fell to Oxford in the season finale, just their third loss of the season. The Cubs are 30-3 and are ranked third in the latest Class 5A state rankings as they set to face Springville in the first round. Alexandria will host the series but Springvillle poses a tough challenge. The Tigers' star pitcher Casey Mize has already signed with Auburn and is set to pitch in game one. The best-of-three series gets underway Friday afternoon.
