Two Stabbings Leave One Dead

State prison officials say they're investigating two separate stabbings -- which included one that left an inmate dead -- at lockups in Elmore and Springville. The Alabama Department of Corrections said in a statement that the violence happened Wednesday night at the Staton Correctional Facility in Elmore; and the St. Clair Correctional Facility in Springville. Authorities say 29-year-old Scott Reed Turnlund was stabbed to death inside the Elmore facility by another inmate around 7 p.m.Wednesday. Authorities say a 29-year-old Edward Doe is the suspect in Turnlund's death. In a separate incident in the Springville facility, 50-year-old prisoner Michael McGregor was stabbed multiple times during a fight with another inmate. Authorities say McGregor was taken to a medical facility for treatment.
