Gov. Bentley Delays State Park Closings

Governor Robert Bentley has ordered the director of Alabama State Parks to delay a plan to close some parks and golf courses due to budget shortages. On April 15th, the park system announced plans to close four parks and two golf courses on May 1, with more closures to follow, including Cheaha. According to Director Greg Lein, since that time, the system has received a tremendous amount of support from the public. The governor’s office and lawmakers have received an outcry for the parks to stay open and for them to receive full funding. Lein says the State Parks Division will delay these closings slated for May 1st until further notice. Lein encourages all supporters of the parks system to continue to enjoy the Alabama State Parks.Lein still cautions that unless a general fund budget is approved that fully funds the Alabama State Parks System, they will still have to take extreme measures to begin to deal with the lack of money.
