Update: Freedom Riders Park Construction

A group of community leaders come together to meet at Southern Custom Exhibits to discuss the progress of Anniston’s Freedom Riders Park. The park is the actual site of the burning of the Greyhound Bus carrying members of the Congress of Racial Equality on May 14 1961. Project organizers say the task concerns tourism, economic development, and reconciliation. Today’s meeting focused on design ideas and making the city’s wants and wishes come true. Exhibit and monument designer Bud Hollomon says they have been discussing preliminary designs. District 32 Representative Barbara Bigsby Boyd and Anniston Mayor Vaughn Stewart say the project’s process is good, but it is going to take millions of dollars to build. When complete, Freedom Riders Park will be about a 7 acre park.
