Lawmakers Set to Vote on Fetal Heartbeat Bill
Alabama lawmakers are expected to vote next week on a fetal heartbeat bill. The House Health Committee held public hearings on abortion bills including the fetal heartbeat bill. The bill by Republican Representative Terri Collins would ban abortions once a fetal heartbeat can be detected, which can be as soon as six weeks gestation. Opponents point out that similar proposals have been ruled unconstitutional in other states.
