Two-Year Colleges Get New Overseers

A new state board will oversee Alabama's two-year college system. State lawmakers gave final approval Tuesday to remove the community college system from the oversight of the state Board of Education. Legislators voted to go along with a change proposed by Governor Robert Bentley. A state senator requested the amendment stating that all board appointments had to be confirmed by the Alabama Senate. The new two-year college board will be made up of industry and business leaders to help focus the college system's mission of worker training and workforce development.
