Alexandria Baseball Preps For Russellville In Semis

The high school baseball season is quickly coming to a close. The Alexandria Valley Cubs are one of just four teams left in Class 5A vying for a state championship. TV24 Sports caught up with the team Thursday afternoon as they get set for their semifinal series against Russellville. Alexandria is 33-5 on the season and ranked third in the state. Russellville comes in as the No. 6 team in Alabama. The Cubs might be the most battle-tested team left in the bracket. In their previous two rounds, Alexandria lost game one then bounced back to win games two and three. Both of those series were on the road, showing just how resilient and pounced they are under pressure. This will be the first time since the opening round that Alexandria will play in front of their fans. Russellville brings a strong lineup and solid pitching so home field advantage can play a big factor.

Alexandria and Russellville get their series underway Friday at 5:00pm and game two is set for 7:30pm. The winner plays the winner of the St. Paul's - Helena series in the championship series in Montgomery.
