FDA Conducts Inspection of Sylacauga Blue Bell Plant

The Food and Drug Administration conducted a series of health inspections of the Blue Bell Creameries’ Sylacauga plant last month and found instances where contamination could have taken place involving equipment and employees. The F-D-A website says there were several failures to perform microbial testing and to protect food from contamination. The Sylacauga plant has been closed for cleaning and sanitizing since April 24 following a recall with reports of a listeria outbreak traced to other Blue Bell plants. Company officials said ice cream produced in its factories after the recall announcement would not be sold in stores. None of the listeria outbreaks have been linked to products made in Sylacauga.
