VE-Day Marks 70 Years

Today marks 70 years since the fall of Nazi Germany and the Axis Powers. May 8th, 1945 is referred to as V-E Day...as in...Victory in Europe Day. That’s when Germany’s surrender was officially announced. The Germans actually surrendered on May 7th, at the headquarters of General Dwight Eisenhower in France. But the agreement did not take effect until the 8th. Celebrations and memorials took place all over the world today, including Moscow, London, and France ---where V-E Day is a national holiday. In the U-S, President Obama paid tribute to veterans during a special ceremony yesterday.
