Victim of Robbery Becomes Suspect in Sexual Assault Cases

A man accuses a group of males of robbing him at gunpoint and cutting his upper eye, goes to the local hospital and then becomes a suspect in several sexual assaults at the hospital where he received care. According to the Gadsden Police Department, on May 6th, 29-year-old Christopher Lewis told police he was robbed by nine males in the 700 block of North 8th Street in Gadsden. He said they held weapons on him, beat him with bottles and took his belongings. He was able to get away but suffered a deep cut over his left eye. He drove to a convenience store in the 1100 block of West Meighan Boulevard and called police. Police responded and took a report. Lewis then drove himself to Riverview Regional Hospital for treatment. In the early morning hours following that incident, two elderly female patients of Riverview said they were forcibly subjected to sexual contact inside their respective rooms by a male fitting Lewis' description - down to the cut over his eye. Three other patients reported the same man entered their rooms but nothing else happened. Christopher Lewis now has two First Degree Sexual Abuse warrants, both with $20,000 cash bonds. On May 9th Lewis was arrested in Escambia County, Florida on Burglary and Theft offences. There is no information regarding extradition at this time.
